Doorstep, post or walk-in? How to choose

Getting a phone repaired is not one-size-fits-all. Depending on the shop you can walk in, post your device off, or have a technician come to you. Each has its place, so here is an honest comparison to help you pick the one that suits your situation.

Walk-in repair

The classic option: take your phone to a shop and, for common jobs like a screen or battery, often get it back the same visit. It is fast, you can talk to the person doing the work, and you never let your device out of your sight for long.

Best for: quick, common repairs when you can get to the shop. The catch: you have to travel and fit it around opening hours.

Post-in repair

You package your phone up and post it to a repair centre, they fix it and send it back. It is handy if there is no good repairer near you, but it is the slowest option and the one with the most to go wrong.

Best for: rare devices or when nothing local can help. The catch: you are without your phone for days, there is postage each way, and there is always a small risk of loss or damage in transit. For most people it is the last resort, not the first.

Posting your phone means days without it and trusting it to the postal system both ways. If there is a good local or doorstep option, it is almost always faster and safer.

Doorstep repair

A certified technician comes to your home or workplace and carries out the repair on the spot, while you carry on with your day. You do not travel, you do not post anything, and your phone never leaves your sight. For a lot of people this is the most convenient option there is.

Best for: busy people, anyone without easy transport, and those who would rather not sit in a shop. The catch: there is usually a small callout fee, and complex jobs may still need the workshop.

How we do it

At Instant Mobile Fix you get the choice. You can walk into our High Wycombe shop on Desborough Road, no appointment needed, or book a doorstep visit across High Wycombe and the surrounding towns for a £10 callout fee. Either way you get a free diagnostic, an upfront price, and our no fix, no fee promise, plus a lifetime warranty on premium screen replacements.

The simple rule

If you can pop to the shop, walk in and it is often done while you wait. If you are short on time or would rather not travel, book a technician to come to you. Posting is really only worth it when there is no local option at all. You can book your repair here and choose whichever suits you best.
